Lead Network Engineer

Key areas of Responsibilities:

  • Acting as technical resource on internal and external projects
  • Resolving issues that arise on the CORETX network or within customer environments
  • Working with our Platforms team to ensure the smooth running of our Cloud environment
  • Performing maintenance on the CORETX network, or customer networks out of hours as required
  • Provisioning new services or customers within our environment
  • Supporting other staff members with escalations or issues
  • Reporting to the Network Operations Manager regarding problems or issues detected
  • Managing resources on the team where requested by other departments
  • Mentor other Network engineers on technical and operational tasks
  • Providing advice to Network Engineers where customer interactions are needed
  • Ensuring that processes and procedures are adhered to
  • Ensuring that the quality of service delivery from Network Engineers is realised

 

Objectives:

  • Ensure continued smooth operation of the network core
  • Provide assistance to other team members for customer and internal enterprise solutions
  • Maintain the professional reputation of the department to our clients
  • Work towards developing client relations and thus developing their enterprise environments
  • Work with the rest of the department to ensure that we remain on-curve for developing our services and performing improvement works
  • Work towards delivering team objectives set by Network Operations Manager
  • Ensure target KPIs are met or exceeded
  • Focus on smooth day-to-day running of the team & working with Network Operations Manager to deliver

 

Experience/Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Technical, analytical and interpersonal skills required for Network Design and Implementation, Network Troubleshooting and Project work
  • Current CCNP certification
  • Knowledge of VoIP operations including L2 & L3 QoS
  • Maintain network security through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls
  • Availability in response to needs of the customer for installation, maintenance and equipment malfunctions
  • Advanced knowledge of internal and external routing protocols – OSPF / BGP / EIGRP
  • Advanced knowledge of firewall vendors including Cisco ASA, Juniper SRX, Fortigate, Watchguard, Netscreen, Sonicwall and Checkpoint
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco, Juniper & HP (E & A series) switches and IOS, IOS-XE routers
  • Strong experience working in a multi-tenant and medium sized enterprise support environments
  • Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a busy business environment
  • Flexibility in working pattern to travel when needed and perform out of hours and weekend work
  • Experience overseeing the organisation of a team & the procedures it follows
  • Ability to provide direction to team members to drive the business vision

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of wireless technologies, primarily Cisco Aironet & Meraki
  • Knowledge of load balancers from vendors including RiverBed, F5, HA Proxy
  • Experience using Solarwinds monitoring platform or other similar product
  • Knowledge of Cisco Nexus 5k and related technologies including Fabricpath and VPC+
  • Experience working with self-lit dark fibre and managed optical units such as PacketLite
  • Valid CCDP certification & at minimum CCNA certifications for wireless, security or voice
  • Valid CCSA/CCSE certification for R75 onwards or equivalent firewall vendor
  • Strong understanding of DNS, DHCP & related connectivity services
  • Experience in dealing with 3rd party TAC resources
  • Experience dealing with remote hands & field resources to perform remote work
  • Previous team management experience
